Netiquette

https://www.socialmediaexaminer.com/social-media-for-business/ The article about it ethics and social media can be found here: https://www.americanexpress.com/us/small-business/openforum/articles/ethics-and-social-media-where-should-you-draw-the-line/ (Assignment for COMM 414)

Using social media is a way that companies can have a conversation with their followers. However, most of the time, followers of social media do not want to feel that they are being sold something. It is better that a company tries to influence their followers, even though taking a sales approach is what companies do mostly.

I found these percentages interesting. 70% of a social media site should be valuable information. 20 % can be content that comes from other people. 10% can be promotional.

Companies should be ethical as the second article discusses:  Companies should be ethical online as they are in other advertising campaigns in marketing their audience. You know unethical behavior when you see it or experience it. The second article points out that it's much like pornography, you know it when you see it! The article points out that being unethical is knowing the right thing to do, yet doing the wrong thing.

  1. Paula,

Thank you for sharing! Good points were made here. One does know unethical behavior when one sees it. That is undeniable! Ethics promotes the morally correct behavior that individuals should have among themselves. We can say that it is what leads us to decide on the value of our actions and to evaluate the possible consequences of them. Therefore, it is what leads us to ask basically: when a behavior is good or bad, who will be affected by the action we will carry out and what will be favorable and unfavorable for each part.

Now, ethics is influenced by morality, we can see this in a quick journey through history, morality has changed influenced by religions, customs, politics, law, among other factors that we can list. However, in the professional field, ethics seeks to regulate the activities that are carried out within the framework of a profession; but when it is not applied correctly, it can negatively affect others.

  2. The thing that jumps out to me the most is 70% should be valuable information in my opinion that number is just a little high. I like how you point out we know unethical behavior when we see it. However, we still constantly see it so do the people out there that do it not understand what they are doing?
